Update

Sorry I didn’t get the Civil War anniversary post up yesterday. Will try to do that later today, or tomorrow at the latest.

In the meantime, I was looking for a nice volcano image to pass along, and learned that today is the 25th anniversary of the Alaska Volcano Observatory. One of “their” volcanoes, Redoubt, had a spectacular eruption in 1990, and that, of course, is the image they use in their news release. Here is another one from the same eruption:

And because volcanoes are not only awesome, at times, but life-sustaining, here is another AVO image, this time of Alpine flowers blooming through ash from another eruption at Redoubt, in 2009:
