Read this.  And look at this.

Joplin, Missouri, got hit hard that day, of course, and so did parts of Mississippi, but like the writer of that essay, my thoughts turn to Tuscaloosa every time I see the skies get roiling or the TOR’s appearing, even though I’m many miles away.  I didn’t go through last year’s disaster, but I was there on December 16, 2000, and saw two other tornadoes during my stay in the area.  It sinks in.

So today, I am Alabama today, too.
